Tour details
Kok-Moynok Lake is one of the most remote and unspoiled mountain lakes near Bishkek. It sits at around 2,780 metres above sea level in Tuyuk Gorge, 75 km from the capital, within the Tuyuk-Issyk-Ata forest reserve.
The trail covers 11 km one way, starting at 1,600 m and winding along the river through dense Tian Shan spruce forest. A scenic 16-metre cascade waterfall marks the midpoint of the climb. Note: the bridge at the river crossing was destroyed by a mudflow — the hike starts with a ford or a crossing on a fallen log, which sets the tone for the whole day.
The gorge walls are blanketed in dark green spruce, and at the lake's edge the peak of Sakharnaya Golova (Sugar Loaf) reflects in the clear water. In season, the meadows along the trail are covered in yellow buttercups and globe flowers.
This route is suited to physically fit hikers. Transfer from Bishkek and a guide are included in the tour price.
